I made this picture last year. Since sold the nice CTi (GTi convertible) and replaced it with another one with mechanical problems. Which will now get a 2.0L turbo from a Lancia. Still own the GTi on the left.

The one in the front is a plain jane 205 (really clean though), the one at the back is a 205 GTi 1.9. With a stripped interior, no back seat, 6-point belts, and a cage. Mine.

No he didn’t. It was not nice enough. He (Reborn Pyrrhic) bought a red 205 GTi instead and took that to the US. I know, I accompanied him when he bought it.

He sadly hasn’t posted in a year.

Thanks for clearing things up, I totally forgot about the red 205 GTi. Too bad he’s not around, it would be very interesting to see what it’s like to drive such a vehicle in the US.

Yep, it’s officially a van. Because I’ve got no rear seats and the windows are replaced by black plexi. I think it was cheaper like that a while ago, but it’s not any cheaper now. Not more expensive either.

As for the car, it’s obscenely terrible in a glorious way:

-rear beam is mounted on solid blocks
-sport clutch
-1.6 gearbox (for shorter ratios)
-Koni yellow all around
-no interior
-no sound deadening
-Sabelt bucket
-6 point harness
-cage
-309 lower control arms.

and some minor stuff.
I hope to keep it a long time.

I can imagine. I don’t own 3 205s at the moment for no reason. Any plans in modifying it further or bringing it closer to stock?

Nope, was not familiar, but I’ve bookmarked it now!

I am currently quite happy with the state of modification it is in, for some odd reason. I do want to try it at the original ride-height for comparison though. Perhaps a different gearbox. Currently first gear isn’t quite long enough to be useful except to ravage tires. And 4k rpm at 120kph gets boring quickly in 5th. On the other hand, if you’re on a tight road, all those gears come in handy to make you feel like a racecar driver.

Truth be told, your stories did play a part in me lusting for 205 GTi’s on marktplaats.

In which part of the country do you live again? You could drive it back to back with my bone stock 1.6 to feel the difference.

Anyway, that 205 totaal place has like 100+ junkers (205 junkers!) and he stocks almost every conceivable part in his warehouse. I got a GTi 1.9 transmission, a turbo diesel transmission and a whole 205 front end the last time I was there . Plus some minor parts.

Monteverdi 2000 GTI was probably the first car to carry “GTI” in its model name. One example was made in ‘68. Unlike its big brothers (with Chrysler V8s) it used a 2.0 liter BMW engine.

The exact history of the car is not clear but the engine does not have fuel injection even though certain sources claim so. It is displayed in the Monteverdi museum in Basel.
